Chollas Creek
Chollas Creek is an urban creek〔(California Regional Water Quality Control Board )〕 in the city of San Diego that drains to the San Diego Bay. It is also the name of a populated area of City Heights, San Diego, California.〔(city-data.com )〕
Chollas Creek arises in Lemon Grove and La Mesa, where its four branches begin. It flows through many of San Diego's most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods and empties into the Bay at Barrio Logan.
The long creek and its small canyon are undeveloped, although portions of it have been armored or channelized.〔(encanto-neighborhoods.com )〕 It has been described as "one of San Diego's most neglected watersheds."〔(Voice of San Diego, October 22, 2010 )〕 For decades the creek has been plagued by pollution, illegal dumping and the destruction of natural habitats.
